1MM networth by the end of 2018
« on: December 25, 2017, 06:53:36 AM »
Last year we worked to get to 500k. Now let's push on to the double comma club. Who's in?

We are sitting at 805k 1/1/2018 // updated for year end

Plan to get there with 110k savings 8k extra house networth. And the rest in market and private ESOP gains. So the market will have to cooperate.  Really hoping to hit the double comma by my 32nd bday in November. Stretch goal by the birth of our first child in July. Market would have to be insane to get that level return.

I'm going to join you.

I am at $846,400 right now*.  In the next 6 months, I will have ~$140K of income (gross), but then on 7/1/18, the firehose of cash will stop, as I am retiring.

Not quite sure what my taxes will look like, and, of course, like you said, who knows what the markets will do!!

Good luck to us both!

* actually, my spreadsheets say $832,400, but I have been lowballing the value of my home, at $306,000.  Even increasing that value to $320,000 is still conservative, so I'll go with that, which brings my NW up to $846,400.

LOL @SwordGuy
Good luck @boarder42  and @NinetyFour I'd join you guys, but I just hit that milestone about a month ago. I have confidence you can both do it.

Edited to include that I'll join in, but only count invested assets and cash. Currently sitting at ~$745K invested and ~$40K cash and $21K in HSA. So it's a bit of a lofty goal to reach $1M by EOY 2018, but I'm down for trying my best.

I'm in. We are at about $905k, not including some stock options that I think are about $20k, but probably shouldn't count yet. This includes 100% home equity.
We will be maxing one 401k, 2 Roth IRAs, college savings @6k, fully fund HSA. The rest will have to be market gains.
I can't wait!

@boarder42 it is invested in VIIIX. I have a HealthEquity account and they require $1K in cash and I can invest the rest. It just invested this morning from my last check. So I actually have ~20,800 in VIIIX and $1K in the HSA cash account.

I would like to hit $1m in investments only (no e fund, no HSA, and no home equity) in 2018. And stay there through year end. Then while that grows a bit, maybe we could focus on trimming some expenses so we could FIRE in 1-2 years. As of today we are at $985k in investments.

you should destroy that easily in the first month.  1.5% gain gets your there basically.  thats with no contributions.

This may be a stretch goal, but I'm in.  As of December 2nd, I was at $785K made up of a combination of: 63K cash, 144K home equity, 381K brokerage, 56K roth IRA, 190K 401(K), and 20K HSA, minus 70K student loan.
Not included are home appreciation (substantial) or remaining mortgage debt (also substantial).  Let's do this!

Sitting around 860k with flat markets. Gonna be tough to make it this year. Have about 80k more savings going in the rest will need to be compensated by market gains. New that would be a stretch and need market cooperation. My stock eval is every April for my ESOP so we should be there easily by this time next year.

Hey @NinetyFour, right back atcha! I just plowed through the Introduce Yourself thread last week. You and a couple of others (@jordanread + my short term memory sucks, but I know there were more) have been cheering on others for quite some time. It warmed my heart to see. I love this community!

And @boarder42, you just cross posted. Keep the faith, man. Stranger things have happened. You've made a ton of progress since you started here and your consistent message re: mortgages* is helping a lot of others reach their goals faster than they ever thought possible, even if they don't fully realize it yet!

Rockstars, the lot of you!

*PS - Just signed papers on a new property, complete with mortgage (OMG, 5.125%, ouch!) yesterday. It should close on Monday.

I thought the timing of your cross-post was really funny. Almost as if the stars aligned while I was thanking others to remind me to thank you, too.

hopefully I get it.  currently at 907k.  Only 55% of that is in the market The other portions are in alternatives (crypto (I was a late comer, so, down), art (banksy), real estate, working capital).

I have almost 500 hours of vacation time that I can bank and rollover annually (took me close to 15 years to save that much), which I count also.  When I leave it'll be >20k after taxes.

1M was our LNW goal for the end of 2018 as well, but with the way the market is, who knows? We started the year at 843k and are 871k currently, after it peaked at 890k towards the end of January. We are 33k in on the "save 100k this year" challenge and should just barely make it, so we will come up short of 1M unless the market plays in our favor.

Don't get lazy and forget to monitor your status as you get close to the actual magic number. In our case I forgot to update  real estate values and hit the target sometime late last year, but I'm not really sure when.  One day I was somewhere in the 900s, and the next thing you know I was over the top.

we're looking better - have around 906k right now thanks to the markets surging back and i decided to increase my estimate on our house - still not at actual value due to the cost to sell and a bit conservative.  Also going to get between 18 and 30k i wasnt expecting to come in - so with all that.  i think its reasonable to assume we could hit 1MM in 2018 again as long as  the market continues up

NW is $944K as of this morning. Hoping to reach $1M in 2018 with another $30K in 401k EE/ERcontributions + $20K in contributions to taxable investments + some (minimal) market gains.

We will celebrate with a low-key date night dinner.

The $1M NW milestone is not of particular importance in our overall plan since we live in an increasingly HCOL area, but it will be super cool knowing we are stealth-millionaires.

This sort of happened to me too. I hadn't been able to put my HSA into MINT and I also hadn't updated my house value. Then all of a sudden I was over too.

For this challenge only counting cash and investments. Currently sitting at $934.5K. Should make the EOY goal of $1M

Today we're at about 968k. So, so close. This includes that I've hit the home savings account hard doing some stuff around the house. After August our monthly costs will go down so there will be more cash to stash. We can do this!

I took a huge pay cut this year, beginning in April, so I'm dubious as to whether we can achieve this without quite a bit of help from the market.  (And we have remodeling still to do and a honeymoon to take -- and yea, the cash for both of those exists in the net worth figures below.) That said, who doesn't love a stretch goal?

1/1/2018   $860.9K
2/1/2018   $879.5K
3/1/2018   $868.2K
4/1/2018   $881.2K
5/1/2018   $917.4K
6/1/2018   $937.9K
7/1/2018   $943.7K
8/1/2018   $968.8K
9/1/2018   $988.4K
10/1/2018 $990.1K
11/1/2018 $955.6K
12/1/2018 $972.0K

$1M by the end of the year?  That's a big ol' NOPE.  Sitting at $945K on 12/15.  It was a nice thought though!

Rock on fellow/ette future millionaires!

We were stretching now it's looking highly probable.

sitting at 930k highly likely we'll get there if the market stays flat to up .

wow we were at 805k to start the year - quite the progression in 5.5 months.  most of that is due to gains in my company stock plan that hit every april crazy to look back and in this flattish market we've gone up 130k in networth.

i also upped my house expected value by 20k(thats included in the 930k) - which i dont know why but that just feels like cheating to me.  its still growing in value and now its 10k higher projected on zillow than it was when i bumped it and i'm still 40k under the zestimate(which i actually think is low) i dunno why but it just feels like cheating - probably due to the fact that we arent planning to move in FIRE so it really doesnt matter or effect FIRE date but it does effect total networth which is the goal of this thread.

I always feel like house value is cheating too. I prefer to look at cash and investments and consider everything else noise. If I sell my house then I'll consider the profit since it would be liquid at that point. I also own a condo that my mom lives in. I haven't considered that in the mix at all. It's sort of a game where I know I have another $100K floating around and with the way the market has been it's now about $150K, but I also have to take care of my mom. As of late I'm considering pulling the plug early and moving to Mexico. I had considered that as a possibility after my regular date in order to mitigate health care and sequence of returns risk, but now I'm seriously considering it full time and selling my house.
