Accidental 20k yesterday.

I need to commit to *not* walking much tonight/tomorrow to give the poor foot a break.

6/26 8961-  I did not get to the Y as I had to get my boat in the water and then spent hours cleaning it. Today might be tough to as I have to go fix some medical carts for a friend of mine so I have to get to Y tomorrow for sure.

9k yesterday, so a relative rest day! Add in my old reliable sneakers (instead of the new sandals -- with arch support! ugh) and my foot is already feeling better.

Sounds good! amazing how those feet will hurt when you start racking up steps on them.

@Mongoose yea it finally became summer here but went from 50s to 80s and humid seemingly overnight!

6/29-25,069 finally a good day. Went for 2.5 hour morning walk and then spent all day boating so alot of running around with that.

6/27: 13k
6/28: 6k
6/29: 2k
6/30: 12k

I've been resting the foot more and continuing to mostly wear the old sneaks. It's better, though not entirely back to normal, and I think I can at least get back to my goal level (13k) even if I don't do longer walks for a little bit. Hoping the doc will have some insight next week.

We went on vacation so I have not tracked well.  Bad news: despite some great hikes in the PNW, most days were below my step goal.  Good news:  I didn't gain any weight!

Back at it Monday (baseball tournaments cramp my style)

Happy to report I walked for two hours at kid soccer practice last night.

Good luck reducing the weight @soccerluvof4 .  I ate sushi last night, so I gained that water weight you lost. :)

I’m super blown away by all these step counts!

I hope you don’t mind a latecomer as I’m trying to get back into a workout routine again (lifting). After taking about 5mo off from even touching a barbell (due to pre and post-separation life craziness), I’d like to get back to lifting regularly, and numbers wise - by the end of December, I’d like to hit my maxes from last December: 280 squat, 278 deadlift (300 would be nicer!) 105 bench. I do have a coach and several other resources, but he’s coaching at a distance since my move; so having some additional accountability sounds like a good idea! I know my goals would go into the next challenge, but for the next two months, even just getting back into the habit would be a big step.

I lift 3-4x/week, and on my non-lifting days I’ve been doing the Zombies, Run! C25K. Losing weight is secondary, but if I drop into the mid 150s from the mid 160s that I’m at currently, that’d be fine.

Thank you very much! I’ll keep an eye out for the new thread.

Dang, that’s a lot of walking! Do you hike, walk pretty much everywhere, a lot of leisurely walks? Basically: what magic are you using for the step count? And ugh. Bloating. I wish I had a solution, but haven’t really found anything that works consistently.

@FemmeHawke I get most of my steps going for a 2 -2.5 hour walk in the morning or doing the Elliptical , things of that nature. During Soccer season when my kids have practice it usually goes up to over 25k because I will walk again during their practice.

Yesterday I went for a morning 2 hour walk with the DW and then we went down to the lakefront with one of my DS and spent the day walking the beach.

I'm keeping up with my training schedule. We're up to 5 miles. I did switch from just run to run-with walk intervals. It's just too hot! And that includes me getting up at 5 am on run days to beat the sunrise temperature increase. I'm not loving getting up that early. Even with the "cooler" temperatures in the upper 60s to mid 70s I was having issues getting dizzy from heat which is why the walk intervals were added. Seems to let my temperature stay stable longer.

Today is supposed to be nice but heat indices are supposed to near 110 for the rest of the week. I may have to run indoors since it won't cool off much overnight either.

Continued heel troubles have my walking at an erratic pace -- some days are 16k plus, others are 9k or less. Still a perfectly respectable amount, but I'm guessing that the PT (whenever I see them) is going to order me to some amount of you-don't-get-to-walk rest. :(

Awesome weekly totals @soccerluvof4 !

This is my first summer of FIRE and I can't seem to stay in a daily routine.  Didn't make my goal most days last week except Tuessay when I committed to running.  Yesterday, ran, gardened and walked at soccer practice...got to a PR of 30,900 steps in one day!  Weight went down a little but I am thinking it's all water weight in the summer heat.

You've got this, PowerStache!

I just set up my first two PT appointments -- three and four weeks from now. Until I have PT advice, I'm planning to only walk if my foot actively feels good (no pain) and otherwise to seek out alternate exercise. I definitely have swelling in the Achilles tendon, and possibly some in the plantar fascia, so I need to be careful to do things that aren't loading the Achilles tendon at the very least.

I dislike lap swimming, so that one's out, and I'm wary of doing my usual weightlifting exercises (squatting/deadlifts/etc). Stationary bike is a nice possibility, as are some modified weightlifting exercises (more upper body and core work, etc). Modified yoga that doesn't have any of the forward folds and focuses on sitting positions might be nice too.

Any other ideas for good things that will use my body but not load the Achilles tendon much?

That sucks sorry to hear about that. I would do alot of machine lifting and mostly upper body as that wont bother your achilles at all other than moving along. But high reps low wait will get your heart rate up. Rowing should /might be ok as well.

I do like rowing a lot. That might be fun! If I do it right it shouldn't load that tendon very much at all.

Yeah. I might get back into my upper body lifting routine (maybe I could finally do a danged pull up?!).

This is making me more cheerful. Thanks!

@diapasoun  - I love the rowing machine. Hopefully it keeps working for you.

I am so impressed by @soccerluvof4 's ability to do an hour + on the elliptical.

Have been over my goal steps of 12,500 the rest of this week, mainly from walking and gardening in the early hours.  Today will be slightly under goal due to temps of 99 and heat index of 109 in the mid atlantic states.

I am committing here to buying another two months at the gym today so that I can access Ye Goode Olde Rowing Machine, whenever I have 15 minutes to sit down and corral the university website into functioning...

@soccerluvof4  - what dedication to get up at 5 am!  Took the kid to summer conditioning camp on Tuesday so got in 20k steps.  Today I took the kids golfing on a 9 hole course...not as many steps as I was hoping for.

We leave on Friday for Jamaica so will not be updating.  Will need to get some walks on the beach in to make over for the food and drink indulgences that are going to be hard to keep under control.

@diapasoun  - Keeping a gym membership is a great way to keep your goals.

@PowerStache enjoy Jamaica! Beach walking can be one of the easiest but yet fun ways to get steps!
