I met my weekly goal, but was also suuuper lazy yesterday and hardly walked/didn't run at all (Sunday's supposed to be a runday).

Today should be a little more active, at least!

@haypug16 Whenever I vist my parents in NY in the winter I end up barely leaving the house, too.

1/28 ended up with just over 15k but almost all of it was from shoveling and /snowblowing 3xs yesterday. Body is aching to show for it. They closed the YMCA so looking forward to getting back to it today.

1/28 - 13,267 - Joining this FitBit challenge has been super motivating. I went on 3 walks yesterday. I'm still like 12k steps behind the first place person but I've been much more interested in getting out and walking since joining.

That's awesome! Keep rocking it!

Hit step count yesterday. Today should be another runday, but my house is coming down with some sort of crud and I've been feeling a tickle in my throat/woke up tired; have backed down to just doing some regular walks in an effort to get low-key exercise that won't provide any ~weak points~ for the germs to take over.

1/29 - Well i did get to the gym and got 15k steps in of exercise and just over 18k overall. Its unbelievable cold here you cant even go outside. Today I woke up to -21 and -50 with the Wind Chill so debating if i try and go to the gym or not. Suppose to get colder yet till about 10am then by tonight be about where it is now. This is insane!

soccerluvof4 Assuming you're driving to the gym -- will your car even start when it's that cold?

Have not yet caught The Crud, though I do have a continuous throat tickle. Unless I'm really laid out or it's fire season, walks pretty much always help. :) Lots of Ricola, lots of tea, lots of veggies over here.

haypug16 The best part is that some day you'll be hitting step counts you couldn't imagine having hit before... and you'll still be amazed at how much some people walk in one day. ;) I used to average over 20k steps a day, when I had access to a walking desk at work, and I'd still be looking agog at people who average something like 35k steps a day!

(There's a great David Sedaris bit about the Fitbit in The New Yorker.)

I mean I've hit 35k before but after spending a full day in Disney World. 20K I can hit on the weekend but not during the week especially in the winter. A walking desk would be great. I just have to figure out how to get my work to pay for it. ;)

I hit 35k too, on a day when I was moving and slept maybe 4 hours. Worst way to hit 35k ever. :P

It's hard to get out and walking in the winter. This is a real and genuine reason why I'm loathe to leave my gorgeous Mediterranean climate bubble here.

Alas, I know my work. Ne'er shall we have a walking desk.

I just googled walking desks and found one for $400. It's actually just the treadmill part that goes under any desk so it's less expensive. I think I may have a shot at this or I can possible find one used for way less.

1/30 - 10,541 steps. Just made it.

Today is so unbelievably cold that I'm not sure how I'm going to do. I can try walking the halls/stairs in my building a million times, no way am I going outside for a walk though.

I wish I could send some of our warmth to you all.

Haypug16, it's amazing what you can do with a 5 minute walk every 25 minutes! See if you can do your work in pomodoros today, with walk breaks. :)

16k yesterday. I think I may be fending off the cold-thing that's passing through our house... though I think Boyfriend may be succumbing to it. He already has a tendency toward mancolds and has been really, genuinely stressed this week (dissertation + prep for a fancy internship interview), so he's not a happy camper.

well yesterday 1/31 i got in just over my minimum 10k steps and that went off when I walked into the hotel in Indy. I didnt go to workout yesterday but walked quite a bit despite the cold with my DD and DS at her campus checking things out. I am at hotel now waiting for the rest of the world to wake up to get going and workout so today I should get my new minimum I hope of at least 15k

Didn't make step count for this last week -- I went hardcore lazy over the weekend. It was rainy and although I got my morning walk in each day, I ended up skipping the afternoon walks for napping + Battlestar Galactica.

Today should be back on track. Already got nearly half my steps after walking my neighbor's dog this morning!

I didn't even come close the last couple days but today I'm already over 8K and it's only 2pm. It's a beautiful day so I took a 30 min walk at lunch. I love when NE randomly get's 50 degree weather in January. Tomorrow I think is going to be even warmer.

Yesterday 2/4 I didnt go to the gym and I forgot to look at my watch after I fell asleep in my chair and went to bed BUT i would be surprised with all the running around I did if I didnt at least get close to 10k steps. But after being out of town 4 days and working out at that hotel gym I just needed a day off.

But got this this morning-

Yesterday was not on track. Rain + headache = more sitting and zoning out to Battlestar Galactica.

Today is again rainy. We'll see how this goes....

Awesome !! Keep up the good work!

Yesterday 2/5 I did get to the Y and was stuck doing the boring Elliptical for 2 hours since no cycling class and then had to walk about 10 minutes to get my 15k minimum. After that I didnt do much and ended the day with just under 18k steps. Still tired from the weekend. Gotta get back there today though and I coach BB tonight. Knees are a bit sore so we will see.

Great Job! Cant believe we dont have more followers/joiners on here. There loss but think more will trickle in.

Anyhow 2/6 I got my Minimum 15k in at the Y .  I did 21.5 Miles on the bike on a hill climb class so it was brutal. Then half hour on the Elliptical and 20 mins on the Treadmill to get my 15k. Ended the day just under 18k. Last year I was averaging mid 20's but what I am doing now is alot harder and getting my hear rate up vs just going out Walking for 2.5 Hours. Remember to try and get your hear rate up at least 3xs a week for 20 minutes or so if you can!

I'm also only 1K steps behind the leader in my FitBit challenge (last week I think they beat me by over 20K for the week) though one player hasn't synced up in 4 days!

2/8- Was a struggle day but I got it done. Did 19 miles on a climbing Spin class and walked for about an hour and a half to get to my 15k Steps. After that I ended up with just under 18k.  My legs are trash from the biking and my ass is sore! see what today brings! Good luck all.

Knees need good keeping. :) Sometimes a 2800 step day is what's necessary for health.

11k steps on Saturday (alas) but back to 14k yesterday. Holding out for 14k today, too. :)

I'll join in....

My average is only about 4-5k steps. I sit at a desk most of the day or am at a desk sitting in class. My psychiatrist recommended to me I make more of an effort to move! So some days I get to about 8k, but my daily goal is still 10k, whether or not I reach it! So far today I have 3.5k :D

Welcome @Rustychase . My DW has the same issue sitting at a desk and I know a few things she has done is park her car further away, walk when possible at lunch, walk when possible right after work and take long ways around office if she needs to go somewhere. It all adds up!

Yesterday 2/11 I got my 15k at the Y working out between A sprint Class, Elliptical and Walking and ended night just shy of 20k with having to shovel and coaching basketball. Looks like today I have alot of shoveling yet again and another BB game to coach unless due to weather it gets cancelled.

Thanks! I park my car at a park and ride location and then ride the bus onto campus, that gives me almost 1k steps just from the bus stop to my building. It doesn't help that my office, the classes I teach, and the classes I take are all in the same building. So I take the stairs as much as I can. My office is on the fourth floor and everything else is typically on the first or second. I'm working on building a schedule so I can start getting an exercise routine started as well!

I've been up three hours with 2.3k steps, most of those acquired from my bus stop walk and monitoring students during their exam today lol

@Rustychase When I was doing the academic life, I started taking periodic walk breaks -- usually one around lunch, and sometimes mid-morning or mid-afternoon. It was good for my legs, but especially good for clearing my head when I was way too deep into my research.

Just barely hit my step goal yesterday, through the power of pacing around my house for 20 minutes to get the last 2k steps. Phew! It's raining today; already got wet on this morning's walk with my neighbor's dog. She had knee surgery recently and so I've been taking him for a few walks each week, and this is our first walk where we've gotten hit by the rain. He's a big, thick-furred shepherd, so he's miserable the moment he starts getting damp. He sort of figured out that if he stuck close to me he'd be drier (I had an umbrella) but overall,he just had the saddest shep face.

Shoveling is a serious all-body workout, @soccerluvof4.

13k yesterday, phew. I went for a run this morning for the first time in weeks; I feel pretty good, though my feet are now a bit tight. Runs are always nice and invigorating, though! especially when it's all rainy out. :)

Grrrrrrr8t Job @diapasoun ! were rolling now!!

Yesterday though my numbers not the highest the were the most well deserved because I did an Hour long Body Pump class, a half hour Hitt Spin class, The Eliptical for a half hour and still had to walk the track to get to my 15k workout steps. The Body Pump Killed my steps and damn near killed me.

2/14- 15k Steps working out , Total 18,645. I finally after a year found out how I can look back on my phone what my watch records so since I forget to look every night I now can. Technology and me are like oil and water! lol
