Not looking like I will make it, half way through the year now and started at 388 now at 425 so might make 460 but I think even that might be a push now.  Ah well, I will join the 2018 thread as and when as it looks like it will be around April / May next year.

Ooh, count me in. I'm on the downslope of my govt career and saving as hard as I can for a December transition to PT work. Don't need $500K to do it, strictly speaking, but it'd be nice.

Current NW: appx $410K

I had an unexpected huge gain and i am now roughly around 510K.  There is an old investment account i forgot about that's my dads but i am on it and my share is 53K.  So i probably have been over 500 for a while now without realizing it.  Its great news, but not the same sense of accomplishment.

I'm within spitting distance of $500k investable assets.  Sitting at $490k and payday is tomorrow.  Another $5k is due to post the beginning of July due to an ESPP purchase and Q2 dividends will also be paid and reinvest soon .  If the market holds, I'll hit this goal by end of July, which is MUCH sooner than expected.  I might hit it this year even if the market pulls back a bit.

Personal Capital tells me investments + cash > $500,000.  Still have another paycheck coming in July.

Who's next?

I started the year at $388k, probably won't get to $500k this year, will likely be early 2018, but fun to see everyone else's progress!

Just crossed 400k myself a few days ago. I'd LOVE to see 500 in 2017 but we only save around 90 to 100k a year and 2/12 months are done already.

My stash is "only" 275, so even a 10% market jump from this massive rally(unlikely) would only be 27k which would be enough. Hmm

Good luck!

^According to me, I was at 400k in FEB, just crossed 450k mid JULY...

This gives me 6 months (paid at the end of the month so 6 checks left)

Back in FEB, I thought it was impossible! Now.... It might actually happen! The markets will need to go up 1-3% and I will need to avoid any major expenses, like big car repairs and stuff. NEVER KNOW!

I'm going to cross $500k and then almost immediately spend a pile of money on a kitchen renovation. I count my home value in my net worth, but only what it was appraised at the last time we refinanced, not what we could currently sell it for. Which I guess is all to say my net worth number doesn't really mean anything anyway :-)

I think we are within the margin of error of a monthly credit card bill, so I'm going to check this goal off! Thanks to the market returns we got there much faster than I anticipated, and selling some household goods and a vehicle as well has helped us bump up the number in the last couple months. I'm counting $45k worth of home equity and the balance of my mortgage in the net worth as well, which I think is a conservative estimate, and I imagine that with the ratio of my net worth that is in stocks that I will probably dip below $500k in the years to come.

We were at $420k Jan 1, and $440k by the end of February, and now at $499-500ish. This was a good lesson on the impact (as well as perhaps the ephemeral nature) of investment returns! I was banking on some kind of market assistance in the goal because my salary was not going to provide $80k worth of savings, but I didn't expect it would come this fast. I wonder if it would be worth tracking more accurately than Personal Capital does for encouragement along the way towards an FI goal.

Currently at 488K, so we should get there by the end of the year. We were at 169K in March 2014 when I found MMM.

If you count our vehicles in our net worth, we are already there. However, I don't like to count them because we don't plan on selling them for money.

Did a better analysis and now at ~$440K. Gaining fast, especially in the real estate partnerships... with #1, my $21K is worth $35-37K (3 years) and in #2, my $20K investment is worth $23k (7 months). These will be the growth drivers going forward while the rest provides stable income and lower risk.

Just ran our end of the month calculations and we are just shy of $464k. There is a possibility that we can hit $500k in 2017. Still a bit of a stretch, but it's possible.

Update: Similar unit in our complex just sold for $350k. Other investments/assets minus liabilities currently sitting at $140k, for a total net worth of $490k. So as long as the local real estate market doesn't tank suddenly, this stretch goal is looking more and more reachable.

Officially hit $500k! We have about $200k in retirement, $200k (very conservative estimate, could be closer to $300k) in home equity, and $100k in other investments.

And we've decided to push our kitchen renovation back until January, so by the time we start buying materials and paying for the labor, we should be sufficiently over $500k that we won't dip under.

Wow, sitting at...

I basically went from extremely doubtful to having hardly any chance of missing it now. With any luck, I will cross this when my OCT pay hits the first day or two into NOV!

Started at $367K Jan 1

We hit $500k today! I was thinking it would be another month but with three paychecks/dividends/market gains this month we've hit the half million mark. Crazy to think it's been less than two years since we were at only a quarter million.

Congrats, you must be my mirror.

I was at 250 at the start of 2015, and now 1 year and 10 months later (496k with market jump today) but because I get paid monthly, I won't cross the actual line until the end of OCT!

Looking at the data from the $250k-$500k race thread we are very similar. If you line up our starting positions ($252k in Dec 2015 for you and $253k in Jan 2016 for me) then every month we were never apart by more than $17k.

Nice!, Well, race you to the big 1M then. Your progress is just so slightly faster than mine, chances are you will pull away, but likely only by a few months at most over the next XYZ number of years.

It feels surreal to be halfway to a million. I almost feel like our net worth will arbitrarily stop growing now, even though that would require a sudden increase in our annual spending by 4x.

A lot can happen in 4-5 years. When I was your age (about six years ago) our net worth was negative, we were extremely underwater on our house, and our income was less than half what it is now.

Haven't added it all up lately and was surprised to calculate $465K today.

Equity in my rental startups has been by far the best performer, with annual returns of 20-25%, but I'm kinda cheating by not paying myself anything. Still, it juices up the returns for the long run and a little savings now should mean a lot more income later on.

Also, outsized bets on renewable yieldcos that tanked after the election have paid off in spades. Sometimes conviction pays.

I'm still not sure I'll hit half a mil this year, and if I don't, it could be quite a while. I'm semi-FIREing in Dec and probably cashing out some IRA money in Jan to expand one startup. Could miss a few tens in the process, but the returns are so much higher (and almost as tax-advantaged) and this is what I want to do with my life... so, there it is. Fun pursuit regardless.
