Where are the 2017 Tax Forms? [US]
« on: January 08, 2018, 08:17:38 AM »
I can only find a draft version of the 2017 1040 form (the exemptions are incorrect based on the new tax bill). Anyone have links?

I expected to be able to find an explanation on the IRS website or news article regarding a delay in forms being available due to the bill, but can't.

Most of the provisions of the new tax bill go into effect in 2018, including the changes in exemptions and standard deductions.

You'd still calculate exemptions and the standard deduction under the previously-existing tax law for the 2017 tax year.

Ha, oh yeah. Total brain fart. Thanks!

Nevermind, I rescind my question.

I don't think there's any undue delay going on here. While this tax reform really didn't affect 2017 taxes much, the forms often are unavailable until a few weeks after the new year because Congress does often make a few last-minute tweaks at the end of the year that do affect that year's filing season.

E.g., it would have been a waste of paper for any Schedule A printed with the text shown below for line 3.  It's now 7.5% (0.075) for 2017, thanks to the late December 2017 tax bill.
