UK-Canada retirement
« on: August 27, 2015, 02:10:38 PM »
AFAIK you need 10 years of UK NI contribs to get any UK state pension. There's a good chance this will change before I retire (in the govt's eyes!) - I think I have 12 or so years of contribs so not much room.

I believe you can transfer this to Canada somehow. Does anyone happen to know, or have links/good search terms? Does it go to CPP or OAS, for example. How does one do it?

Not looking to do anything immediately, or even at all - diversity and all that (though the UK pension for non-EU expats isn't inflation adjusted after it begins, so I'd probably be mad not to do something if something is doable - and assuming we don't move somewhere else in the next 30 years!).

Thanks!

Service Canada has a webpage discussing these issues with further links. See "United Kingdom - Pensions and Benefits".

The general rule is that government publications are not legal authority and cannot be relied on for any purpose. Furthermore, I have not read the page closely and I do not know whether it is accurate. I am only providing it to you to assist in your research because you apparently didn't know the right search words to locate this content. No endorsement of the link is intended.

Thanks. That looks to be "the other way" but I'll have a browse.
