TurboTax download/CD vs online version questions...
« on: February 06, 2017, 11:37:22 AM »
I have used TT online for many years, but was considering using a download or buying a CD from Amazon.  As best I can tell, if you have 1099-B statements, you must use the Premier version if going online, where you can use the Deluxe version via download or CD if you have 1099-B's...  Utilizing the TT download/CD route will save me $$$.

Big questions for me:

- With the download/CD version, what if you start with say Deluxe, but want to/need to/have to go to Premier...  Did you just throw out $40, and have to buy the version you want or really need?

- How are previous online filled returns handled?  Can you login to your online TT account through the downloaded/CD version, and transfer account/basic input data into the downloade/CD version, look at previous returns, etc?

I don't want to have to input all of the mundane, tedious things TT online does for me now, because I have used it for so long, by switching to TT download, or CD.  I hope I have made sense.

Thank you.

I no longer use TT... but back when I did, you could upgrade at any point along the way.  I don't remember the upgrade price.  It *might* be cheaper to buy Premium than to buy Deluxe and upgrade... but you're not paying the price of Deluxe PLUS the price of premium.  (As I recall, there were several points along the way where it would ask ... Don't you REALLY want the Premium version?  No.  I know my basis, thank you.  Please move along.)

+1

From all I have experienced and heard, the TT download versions are "better" than the online versions with the same name.

Thanks folks - Going to give the downloaded version a shot, after 16 years of online TT.  Have a great day.
