Tax Gurus: State General Sales Tax Deduction, gone for 2015?
« on: December 02, 2015, 02:06:50 PM »
For those of us living in States w/o state income tax, in years past we have been able to claim State General Sales Tax (or, an approximation from a table) on our Schedule A forms.  I have heard that last filing was the final opportunity to take advantage of this as it was being phased out, but now I am wondering if that is still the truth or if it has/will be extended for another year?  Running thru my "mock" 1040 and was just wondering...

TaxAct's "2015 Preview" version says "legislation is pending."

Pretty sure any congress person from the primarily affected states and up for re-election in 2016 would vote to continue the sales tax option.  Just have to wait and see what the rest do.  One recent article: http://thehill.com/blogs/pundits-blog/economy-budget/261707-ways-and-means-chairs-call-to-action-on-taxes.

Looks like they might try to extend them for two years this time.
