Tax calculator
« on: June 11, 2016, 12:53:16 PM »
I'm sure this has been posted before, but my search function wasn't working.

Can anyone recommend a good online calculator for estimating self-employed taxes that allows you to plug in deductions?

Thanks!

Possibilities include
www.excel1040.com
https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/calculators/taxcaster/
case study spreadsheet

Depends on what you really need.  Full packages (e.g., TaxAct) are worth considering if your situation is complex.

Good luck!

thanks, the excel was a bit advanced it seems, but the turbotax doesn't allow for specific business deductions.  We only have 1099's so it is hard to find the right calculator....

I just went through the paper forms yesterday, to come up with some plans.  Took half the night, but made me think about 10,000 different things I wouldn't have thought of otherwise.  I recommend setting aside a few hours and sitting down with the paper forms and the irs.gov website to download the publications and instructions.
