IRA Recharacterization, good idea?
« on: January 30, 2017, 08:14:25 AM »
For the first time last year, we were fortunate enough to make enough that a portion of our IRA contributions were taxable.

I had already contributed 5500 per person to our IRAs. When I figured out what portion of those contributions were taxable, I recharacterized those taxable funds as Roth IRA contributions.

This strategy makes sense to me--get what benefit I can from the IRA and fall back to the Roth, but I'm curious to hear what some of the wise sages on this forum have to say.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
