Haven't received a W2C, should I file taxes with W2 data?
« on: April 16, 2016, 10:24:24 AM »
Due to a misunderstanding with my payroll dept, I over contributed to my HSA by $181.65.  I had them reverse the contribution to bring me down to the annual limit.  I was told I would receive a W2C to reflect this reversal, but I don't have it yet.  It's my understanding that on my W2, box 12W should be decreased by $181.65. and boxes 1 & 5 should be increased by $181.65.  In Turbotax, should I file with the original W2 information, or should I correct it with the anticipated changes?
Anyone have any experience or advice with this?  Thanks!

If you think that your company is going to issue a W2-C in the near future, I would recommend filing an extension on your tax return.  Doing this will allow you to keep your timely filing status and get the correct W-2.  This could save you the headache of having to amend your return if you file with the wrong data.  If you do go the extension route, always make sure to pay what you owe with the extension.  You are still responsible to pay taxes by the original deadline.
