Foreign address problems with tax software?
« on: March 17, 2019, 12:00:59 AM »
I'm using H&R Block Deluxe for my taxes this year, and after selecting e-file I hit a snag.  The tax software requires I enter a "Daytime phone number", a domestic number.  But I've checked the "foreign address" box and filled in information there, which then grays out the box for daytime phone number.  So the catch-22 is that the software won't let me enter a phone number, and won't let me e-file until I enter a phone number.   I'm surprised they didn't try this scenario before releasing their product.

Last year I used Tax Slayer and didn't have this problem.  Anyone else hitting something similar?  Or have a way around it?

H&R Block fixed the problem (foreign address, but insists domestic phone number was required).  I no longer have a problem e-filing.

Note in this situation, there's an important "back up": you use IRS Direct Pay, and pay taxes through their website.  There's an automatic extension of time for filing forms once you've already paid the tax.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
