Child Tax Credit Question
« on: December 24, 2017, 08:54:14 AM »
Anyone know if we can claim child tax credit for 2018 without any "earned" income? We live on rental, investment and military pension income. Is wage or other self employment income a requirement for claiming the child tax credit?  Thank you in advance!

My understanding is earned income (something like $3k worth) is only required to receive the "additional" child tax credit (the refundable part).  So I think you can still use the child tax credit up to the amount of federal taxes you owe on that pension and investment income.

The separate childcare expense credit (or deduction, I forget which it is) does require both parents to be working.
