Hi all, I think I made a mistake on my 2016 return, I left off an IRA contribution and subsequent backdoor Roth conversion that I did in early 2017 (for 2016). Hence form 8606 for 2016 lists $2300 of contributions rather than $5495. Does anyone have experience amending form 8606? I use TurboTax.
My other question involves the resulting 2017 1099-R which now shows an ~$8600 distribution for 2017. Is it ok that this number is greater than the $5500 limit?
One last question... if there were a few dollars of gains between my Traditional IRA contribution and the Roth conversion, how are those tracked/taxed? Does TurboTax know to look at the difference between the Form 8606 contribution and the Form 1099-R distribution?
Thanks for the help! I'm trying to educate myself as my situation gets a little more complicated.
