Great article!  Way to go!

My favorite line:

It seems as if thinking about the world through the lens of maximizing your independence by minimizing your overhead could, at best, transform your life and, at worst, result in your amassing thousands of dollars in savings.

Thanks for the link.  What a wonderful article!  I especially liked the part about how this lifestyle eases a person's stress.  It sure has for me too.  One of the best parts of it.

My favourite bit: "For millennials like him, alternative business models, unorthodox living arrangements, close-knit digital communities, and old-world skills are filling the void left by the disappearance of affordable housing, stable jobs, decent incomes, and benefits."

That was my favourite part as well! I feel like it takes an amazing amount of insight for an "outsider" to be able to really understand that part of the lifestyle. I remember during the interviews that she really dug deep to get at the core concepts, and it sure comes through in the finished product.

I am going to fess us and say that the article inspired me to make a pie.  A blueberry one when the blueberries are in season!   I've made plenty of cakes, cookies etc. but never a pie.  :)  I've already printed off a recipe from Cdn. Livng recipes.

If you want to get really into it, here's my #1 pie crust recipe: https://www.budgetbytes.com/2011/11/apple-cranberry-hand-pies/ I swap shortening for the butter.

Thanks very much for the recipe.  I like the idea of hand pies.  They look very cute.  I also really like Budget Bytes as well.   Practical and delicious stuff!

Oh Zikoris...good for you!  I started a thread about the walrus article.  I figured you were on the forum somewhere.

Of course the writer of the article wrote it as being extremely sceptical of mustachianism being a possibility for everyone (including the author).  Was the writer that disbelieving when he/she was interviewing you?

I actually though the writer was relatively open to the concept(at least when compared to many other articles written about MMM or other Mustachians which are very critical/ridiculing).

Also congrats Zikoris, hopefully it'll convince a few readers to look in to this more.

Often, expressing skepticism is a tactical choice by the writer, and not reflective of their personal opinion. The writer is expressing what a lot of readers will think, which makes them feel that the author agrees with/understands their own position, which makes them both more willing to question their own assumptions and more likely to keep reading.
Remember, the writer's job, as far as their employer is concerned, is to gain and keep readers.

I really loved this article.  The writer seemed to be saying "Wow, this is a really good idea!"  It's nice to see our own Zikoris is becoming internet-famous.  :)

I agree - I think she "got it" more than the vast majority of writers of these types of articles. She really dug deep into the core principles - it's way too easy to just focus on the surface for these types of pieces.

Very cool.

I think the point that it's not about "giving up" (crap) but "figuring out what you want" (then actually spending your money on THAT, efficiently) is too often overlooked.

Good read. The Walrus doesn't allow for reader comments? I miss reading all the comments from the haters.

I know, right? It would have been a glorious shitshow. There's a pretty big discussion on /r/frugal, but it's mostly civilized.
