Using LYFT to make money and new friends!
« on: September 03, 2014, 02:25:24 PM »
For the past month I have been driving for Lyft (similar to Uber) and it's really helping me pay down some debts so I can finally get after it on my stache. It's been paying about $20/hour and up if I work the right hours. Obviously there aren't really 40 hours a week where that kind of money can be made, at least not where I live. But, if you're willing to drive drunk people home from about 11 PM to 4 AM three weekend nights a week, you can make an extra $300 per week by only "working" 15 hours.

As a recent college grad, the extra money is fantastic. Driving people home from the bars is pretty entertaining as well and it keeps me from continuing my bad habits of spending too much money on drinking. I've already made a few new friends and luckily haven't had any bad experiences as of yet.

It's also a great way to get around town, sober or intoxicated, for a fare that is usually cheaper than a taxi. Even if you're not interested you should definitely download the app and take a ride.

If anyone reading this is interested in driving for yourself, feel free to ask me any questions you might have. You can use my referral link if you'd like sign up to help out a fellow mustachian. Some cities also offer benefits to the new driver once they complete around 20 rides or so.

Not interested in driving, but have to add my endorsement for Lyft.  We recently spent a week in Nashville on vacation.  Our condo wasn't close enough to all the clubs on music row to walk, so we asked about cab companies in the leasing office.  They told us about Lyft, showed us how to download the app on our phones, etc.  Long story short, we totally loved it.  Very convenient, efficient, and WAY less expensive than traditional cabs...plus, we met a lot of really nice people in the drivers.  Check it out if it's available when you travel.  Oh...and if you're really drunk on the ride home, be sure and tip the driver a bit more than normal :-)

A friend of mine does this in Chicago, he likes it a lot and has enjoyed the company, he makes himself available daily during rush hour and makes quite a bit.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
