unexpected work success
« on: November 15, 2013, 11:56:26 AM »
I just had to share with someone because in real life I just don't feel comfortable telling anyone except my spouse.  You all are the only other people that know :)

Anyway, I just found out that my business has been awarded a number of contracts for 2014 that will push my income into the top 1% of all income earners in Canada while I continue to work part time.  I've also been asked to write part of a university text in my field.

For me, this all is incredible as I grew up real poor and I was the first in my family to even graduate high school. Thank goodness we live in a society where you can change your circumstances.  I do believe anything is possible if you are willing to do what it takes to have what you want.

My child self would have been amazed if she could have seen this part of her future.

Huge congratulations! I'm sure you worked very, very hard to achieve this.

And your "child self" is quite proud of what you have made of your life, totoro.

Thanks!  I don't think it is so much about being proud, but rather recognizing that over time, working toward something you want to achieve is almost as magical as compound interest - the small steps do add up and it snowballs.  You end up in a place where it takes less effort to create more success.  It does work this way, but, in my experience, it doesn't seem realistic until you experience it yourself.

This is such a great point-it applies to everything, including your career and eventually becoming FI!

Congratulations on all of your hard work and achievements!

Awesome! One of the things I love about this forum is the opportunity to share your good fortune with like-minded folks.

Congratulations on both achievements, totoro. Keep going strong!

Love this, and I think I'm starting to see this in my career also.  Congratulations!!!  I especially think getting asked to develop part of a text book is awesome!

Thank you for this.

First of all, congratulations!!! Second, I needed to hear this. I'm early in my career and still doing the "grunt work" stage of things, and my professional life is full of newness and uncertainty as I learn, adapt and improve.

Your post gives me motivation to hang in there, keep with it, and reap the benefits! :D
