Undercabinet lighting
« on: October 30, 2015, 08:24:56 AM »
Discovered MMM a few months ago and have been slowly optimizing our spending. Replaced all the remaining incandescent bulbs and halogen recessed lights this summer, but it took us a while to find the right replacement bulbs for our undercabinet lights. Our house is open plan but there are no windows in the kitchen so these help with food prep. Anyway, after ordering the wrong kind on Amazon the right kind arrived last night, and I discovered some pretty facepunch worthy things. There were 26 x 24 watt bulbs under there!!! The replacement bulbs we found are WAY brighter than the originals, so we will be replacing 26 x 24 watts with 8 x 3 watts, which is 1/26th of the original wattage and way brighter (and will produce less heat in the summer).

Kitchen under-cabinet lighting is one of my few remaining conversion to LED lighting tasks.  Would you be kind enough to share which product you invested in?

Thank you,
Steve

I don't know what they are called exactly. They were installed by our builder and are wired in. They are long strips with 4-6 bulbs in each (covered by a diffuse panel so you can't see the bulbs). The LED bulbs are quite a bit larger than the originals but the plug part fits right into the slots.

thanks.  I just ordered it based on your link, too.  I hope they fit (old ones seem flatish, these look a bit round)

I hope those work for you! I still love the ones we got. So much brighter! I'll be curious to see if it made a dent in our electric bill too since we use the undercabinet lighting quite a bit during meal prep.
