i'm part of the great resignation
« on: October 14, 2021, 05:45:41 PM »
Just wanted to brag here because I can't brag to anyone in person.....

I am an engineer who requested WFH from my FAANG employer. They rejected me citing lack of company guidance / policy. I went to another company and got a 30% raise with WFH. My wife and I might finally be able to move back close to family, and even move to single income. I'm both excited and nervous, but I hope this is all good.

thank you for being a great community that continues to inspire me, MMMers.

That’s good stuff! Way to have the guts to not take the 'no' as a final answer.

That is awesome, and fantastic for you! Nice little pay bump helps, no? :)

I too quit my job for an employer who was commanding us back into the office. Got a permanent WFH role, slight pay bump, and turns out to be a much more enjoyable role and company than my last one. Now if we could just figure out where we want to live...

Did the same! Switched tech companies, got a big raise, and get to WFH permanently. Love it!

That's awesome you didn't let them dictate your life. And GoingToMaine I understand that some people love WFH and some don't. I hope things can open up soon (come on people, take the vaccine!) and those that want to work in person can.

I also had a similar experience as I am also an engineer and I was given a "promotion" with very little pay increase but a huge increase in work/responsibility. Went on the market and got a 40% pay bump and it's full time remote as well (I don't want to move states). We'll see how it goes!

Awesome!  I have a relative who's in a similar position.  Worked for one FAANG for several years, jumped to a second FAANG when his career path capped out, and moved out of SoCal when everyone went WFH.  They were recently denied permanent WFH, despite the endorsement of their boss and grandboss.  They're appealing, but if they get denied again, they'll probably be jumping ship.

Some faang are hiring remotely :-)

Anecdata:  We've lost four people in the last three months (in a small company >30 employees). Three were parents of young children who were the lower wage earner in their couple and needed more flexibility. One was a programmer who wanted full time remote work when we asked people to come to the office part time.

Two people that I know (and then myself on top of that) are parents of young kids wanting WFH + location flexibility as well.
