Where I live thrift stores are super popular so they're a bit pricy, but some decent deals can be found. I got a pair of leather boots for 15, my sister bought almost the same pair new for 140. Also found a pair of dance shoes in great condition for 10, they would have retailed over 100. Both were mislabeled as the wrong size, so maybe that's why they hadn't been scooped up earlier.

Purchased a bread machine for $1.50. I have been using it weekly for two years and it's still going strong!

Couple of weeks ago, i saw a high dollar men's sweater in new condition at my fave thrift store. It's a fancy Italian brand I recognized from my Nordstrom days. It had a shawl collar and I didn't know if DH would like it. It was $14.00, so I passed. Yesterday, I found it on the $1.00 clearance rack, plus it was 10% off your entire purchase day. Ninety cents was a risk I was willing to take. DH likes it and looks so handsome in it. He didn't take it off, but wore it for the rest of the evening, with the "expensive" $14.00 price tag hanging from the sleeve. Funny guy.

We are headed to the northeast in a couple of days. Needed ski/snow clothes for us/kids. Found 3 pairs of kid ski pants at the thrift for 50-cents each. Boots for me for about $5. Not my style but they are warm and will do. Boots for DD for 50-cents.

Now I have to find some reasonable gloves/mittens.

Our coffee pot died this morning. It gave out after working hard for 10 years. Replacement was not optional. Nice stainless steel replacement for $13 at Goodwill. No gaps in morn8ng coffee, thank my lucky stars!

I decided to wash said sweater today and found the original price tag inside. The actual price had been clipped. I'm sure it was a gift to someone who didn't like the collar. What a waste for some poor soul, but so glad it isn't me!

These purchases have been awesome.....snow is knee deep. Kids change from wet snow pants to dry ones and I can actually get out there in my boots and $1 ski pants (an earlier thrift purchase).

So stoked. I stopped in at my local thrift shop to look for some hanging-around-the-house-or-exercising shorts. Not only did I find three cute pairs, but I also got three dresses! One is like new, one has the tags still on, the third is in fine shape, and they all fit and flatter. I'm somewhat picky about fit, so it's doubly great to find all this stuff at once. Grand total after rounding up to make a donation: $32. That's pretty extravagant as far as thrift shop prices, but I'm so excited anyway.

Y'all are a bad, bad influence.

I read through this thread yesterday, and "randomly" stopped by my friendly neighborhood Salvation Army yesterday.  ("Randomly" as in "I got on my bike with a backpack and rode over there...")

For $10.80, I got an athletic top (the tank style, with a built-in bra, which was the only thing I really needed), a pretty skirt WITH POCKETS! (OMG, I am so freakin' tickled with this! And it's got tons of cool embroidery and detail that I would never sew into a skirt I make!) and a somewhat-dressy sleeveless top.

The third top, though it sounds the least exciting, went under the sewing machine this morning and now fits me without my bra showing. (I took up the shoulder seams about 3/4 inch on both sides.) It's got a cool pattern, and looks adult-y and is some synthetic silky material that doesn't touch me in very many places -- perfect for the hot part of summer. I am wearing it now, with some shorts I collected for $5 or so a few months back...

Now to remove the stinky-est tank top from my dresser...
(I swear, I soak them in enzyme solution every couple of months, and they still get incurably stinky. Any suggestions?)

Anyone been to Plato's Closet? I bought $290 retail worth of athletic wear for $75 last week. Under armor hoodie, brand new adidas shorts, university sweatpants, really nice name brand stuff all discounted.

I love thrift shopping!

My doctor has been pushing me to get an ergonomic split keyboard, but I've hesitated because of cost and because I've not been able to find a backlit one and have trouble seeing a black keyboard in the evening. Today I found an old MS Natural for 99 cents. It's in perfect working order, all keys working and still readable, and it's white.

I am currently pregnant and have bought most of my hospital bag/maternity clothes from the thrift store. At my last venture I found:

- Super cute cat pjs in a larger size
- A soft thin robe, it looked brand new
- A striped maternity shirt, brand name too!
- A beautiful maroon maternity shirt
- A large pair of leggings
- A pair of cheapie yoga pants to wear

All of this was $44, but I had a $10 off coupon because I donated my old clothes. It's a win -win situation!

I always hunt thrift stores for antique canning jars.  I love they way they look in my pantry with chalkboard labels filled with dry goods.  Anyway, a couple of days ago I FINALLY found an H over A jar.  I've been looking for one of these for years, but also refuse to pay more than $1 for a jar.

Hey all. I think one person has mentioned this already but I got my wedding dress in a charity shop earlier this year. There are a few shops in the country where I live that specialise in bridal/occasion wear. I was never going to buy new for something I'd wear for one day. It's was €150 and I did need it taken up so an extra 80 for alterations. It's the most expensive dress I've ever had but still nothing compared to the grotesque thousands that it seems like the majority of women spend here.
Also, it was simple and beautiful and I looked like a bride and we're now married so great success all round!

Not sure if there is a newer thread for this but maybe time to revive?

I recently lost a bunch of weight so really needed a new wardrobe.  I've been getting new stuff at JcPenney's - sundresses for $6.35 and shorts/tanks in the $3-5 range but the really good stuff has been found at thrift stores:

* Forever 21 sweater for $1
* Jag jeans for $1  (normally $80)
* 32 degrees yoga capris for $2
* Brand new, tags on 511 tactical pants for $4
* Designer jeans - adriano goldschmeid for $5 (normally $200)

I also have an upcoming trip that needs a soft sided duffel bag, was looking at some cheap, made in china stuff for $20+, found a sweet Taylor Made vintage in a really cool design for $3.

Years ago I purchased a knit top at the thrift store. I don't think it was any special brand but everytime I wore it to work, someone complimented me on it! I don't remember what I paid but probably $3-$5 at most. I always chuckled and told them I got it at the thrift store. Not sure what they thought about that but I didn't care!

One of the first things I'm doing once I feel safe (after being fully vaccinated) is go back to my favorite thrift stores. I could really use some new jeans or other casual pants. Couple years ago I scored the most comfortable and well-made knit pants ever, Ralph Lauren brand. Don't recall the price but they were in perfect condition and a steal. Sadly, splashed bleach on them; tried to cover up most of the spots with a Sharpie, lol. Still wear them around the house, and these days if I'm just running out to get a pickup order and nobody will see them.

(Side note - I wonder if people will understand those pandemic references in a couple of years?)

Adult granddaughter had requested a cookbook just like mine. It was given to me by my grandmother when I asked for, "a good, all-purpose cookbook that teaches you how to make everything!" She got me the 1980 Good Housekeeping Cookbook, and it was perfect. I found a copy of the exact same book at the local thrift store yesterday for $1! I plan to go through it and mark all of the family favorites...all I have to do is flip through mine and find all of the greasy, floury pages. Especially Mr. Z's favorite pie crust.

Slightly off topic, but here goes. I volunteer at my favorite thrift store. All the proceeds go to support a hospital. Well, the hospital gave our entire staff of volunteers Covid vaccinations. Totally unexpected! Best thrift store score ever!

Hahaha, Friday I took my dog to the groomer and wore jeans that are not all that comfortable. So, when I got home I put my pajama bottoms back on, which actually look coordinated with my velour shirt. When it was time to pick the dog up, I said the hell with it and left my jammie bottoms on and threw on a fleece jacket. I was only there about 3 minutes and the groomer didn't even seem to notice! I felt naughty not being appropirately dressed but who cares!

I'm pretty sure that this will be remembered by those who lived through it and beyond!

Thinking of big events, some don't fade much.  The depression, moon landing, 9/11, Covid 19...

I love our salvation army store. I get almost all my work shirts there. 90% are Ralph lauren. Great condition and they seem to launder them first. When i first started going i could get ralph for $4 a shirt but they seem to have caught onto me so now they are $8, unless it's the tag sale at 50% off.

Our daughter used to call it "the mall" ...

We would often give her a $10 budget and say - 'go to town kid'. She'd do her own shopping and usually picked some really cool stuff.

Overheard our daughter (then 8 years old) telling her school friends about this "great shop where you can get super cool stuff really cheap, and get this - everything is unique! There's only 1 of everything, not like those other stores where they have just lots of the same thing".

And there is no reason to feel guilty about shopping there when you have money. They need the cash to pay employees etc, and the profits go to really help people. They usually have waaaay more stuff than they can ever sell, and it otherwise ends up going to make rags or to landfill. Plus I find the staff super friendly and really nice.

Yep, they get WAY more clothing donated than they can possibly sell. By buying thrift, you're helping.

Mine is the 1986 edition of the Good Housekeeping Cookbook! We bought it soon after we got married, and after that I got the idea to give a copy of it as a wedding gift, which we did for several years. I found another one for 10¢ a few months before the pandemic struck, so I grabbed it for one of my kids to take when they eventually move out. I sure miss thrifting, especially combing through the book room of a local thrift on 10¢ book day (must buy at least 10 to get the 10¢ price).

I got 4 t-shirts, two pairs of sweat pants, and a hoodie for $20.18 from the thrift store! They were new with the tags, but I still washed them when I got home.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
