The neverending pack of razor blades
« on: August 05, 2017, 05:38:50 PM »
I've been using the same Mach 3 razor head for over 8 months and I'm shooting for a year. I'd say it has 80-90% of the comfort it had when it was new. All you have to do is rub it against the grain on your arm hair before shaving 10-15 times, then dry it thoroughly with a towel after you're done. At this rate the 24 pack I bought at Costco will last me the rest of my life.

Doesn't rubbing it on your arm hair tend to, you know, remove the arm hair? ;-) I jest.

The drying part is the key. Corrosion at the thinnest point (edge of the blade) is what really kills blades. I'm also a Mach 3 user and have had some success extending the life of my blades by "stropping" them on an old towel before use.

Of course, what makes the biggest difference is to just not shave very much.

It may have 80% of the comfort, but only because you have become accustomed to shaving with a dull blade. Not that the multi-blades are all that sharp to begin with. It may feel ok, but I'm guessing you are making multiple passes.

I gave up shaving with multi-blade razors years ago because of the cost, and because they irritated the sh*t out of my face.

I do the same. With travel (so one razor at home and another in travel bag) and normally only shaving every 2 or 3 days, a razor (I'm on the fusion ones) lasts > 6 months. I find that the razors are sharp initially so can lead to small cuts, then slightly less sharp for a good while so seem to shave without any cuts, then eventually get blunt and can cause larger cuts - that's when they go.
