Successfully Refoamed a Speaker
« on: May 10, 2015, 06:01:28 PM »
And it sounds great.  Now that I see how easy it is I will do the second one tomorrow.  Significantly better sound compared to the unrefoamed one.  A great improvement in sound for a $20.00 kit from Simply Speakers.  Simply Speakers has a great video which led me gently through the process.

I keep reading this as "Successfully Reformed a Speaker" and thinking, wow, getting someone to change their talking points is pretty badass, all right. lol. But re-foaming a speaker is pretty cool too. ;)

You made me snort my wine.  Good thing I have a plastic keyboard cover.  Clearly, politics are starting to heat up in coverage if that was the auto-fit your brain did.  It would be truly hilarious to ask people to describe the image that came to mind and then see where they fell on the political spectrum.  I bet the mental pictures vary with political alignment or lack thereof.  I am not going to do it because I don't want people to start slamming each other.  I like friendly threads.

I also first read it as "successfully reformed a speaker."  Hopefully the second time hearing it won't make you snort your wine again =)

What speakers did you start with?

Only because I quit after one glass.  Clearly I should have said "half a pair of speakers".  They are MCS 683's.  Surprisingly descent.  Found the whole setup at a yard sale for pocket change. I had no idea that JC Penney must have moved enough stereo equipment stereo equipment to field a house brand with a 12 inch woofer.  Now I have done it once, I have the bug and am already starting to watch the thrift stores, yard sales and Craig's list for the next project.  I feel a serious attack of new hobby syndrome. Next holiday, I want a good soldering iron.
