Sold on FIRE
« on: September 22, 2015, 03:58:14 PM »
DW (a heroic stay at home mother of 3) and I are recent converts to Mustachianism; we started taking an active interest in money and investing after I negotiated a sizable raise at work.

So far this year we:
  • sold our clown car minivan
  • paid cash for a reliable little Honda
  • hit 100k net worth
  • stashed 40%+ of my new salary

I busted out the bicycle for my 7 mile commute.  I haven't driven my car in over a month!  The stars line up in 12 years: mortgage paid, kids graduated from HS, and FIRE.

Yes, that's far away and stuff happens, but I can't imagine a future in which we regret this lifestyle change or chasing the new dream.

DW also just started working on a bachelor's degree this month, for which we will pay cash.

Thanks for all the tips and advice over the past months!  I owe you all big time.

DW's education is a personal life goal, not a financial investment.  Her BS degree will be in marriage and family studies, with a minor in Asian studies.

After graduation, she wants to make a job out of her current hobby of helping first generation migrants get settled to life in America.  We also have long term plans to tour, live, and do missionary work overseas in Taiwan, China, or Korea.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
