Darned socks!
« on: February 20, 2018, 05:13:10 AM »
Holes had formed in the heels of my favourite “house socks” sort of slipper substitute. Bought on holiday so not really replaceable.

Watched a YouTube video, made a makeshift darning mushroom from bit of firewood with an old doorbell bell as the top, used a bit of wire looped at the top as a needle then darned the holes.

Here is the result: (yellow wool at heel is new)

Nice!  A few of the socks my mom knit for me have developed holes.  I need to learn to darn them because they are absolutely worth it!

If you are able to get in touch with your mom, tell her the socks need darning and ask if she has any of the yarn left over from when she knitted the socks. I knit lots of socks and invariably end up with small bits of yarn left -- the perfect thing for making an almost-invisible darn. (one of the great things about hand-knit socks.)

She lives right across town :)

Whether or not she has scrap yarn depends... Sometimes she has just enough to make to more "top parts", so she'll do that and make the foot of the sock in a coordinating color.  Fortunately, I don't mind if the darned parts match or not.

Congratulations. I have a pile of regular socks sitting near the couch waiting for me to sew holes in the big toe area. No special skills needed. Just need to get to them.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
