Um, I'm not sure, we are pretty varied. Most of my houses have had clotheslines, only one was zoned against, but I put an umbrella clothesline up in the back yard where no-one could see it.
Here it is more the weather - it's hard to do in -20C, things freeze before they dry, and so do you as you hang them out. We can have a lot of humid or rainy weather in the summer too, which means dining the laundry first thing so it has all day to dry, and watching to make sure it doesn't get rained on. Good weather forecasts are essential ;-)
We do it though - my neighbour and I were were saying last week how happy we were, we both had our first laundry of the season out on our lines.
I have the stands for indoor drying and use them all winter, the only things that get the dryer are sheets (flannelette is slow to dry) and towels (part way, they can finish hung up). I can't be the only one doing this, there are lots of stores that sell them.
Now you've got me wondering... is it a North American thing? Canadians, are clotheslines commonplace up there?
