I was an English major many, many moons ago but my skills are too rusty to really feel comfortable charging. This wouldn't have been true editing. He has a jobs list that he puts out weekly and it's a mishmash of crazy fonts, spacing and inconsistent abbreviation, so I was volunteering to help make it a bit more reader friendly...tidy it up a bit.
Instead of doing that he wants to teach me how he recruits, reviews resumes, matches skill sets and submits for the jobs. He's paid a placement fee (percentage of the salary of the position placed, usually) and he's looking at how he'd pay me. Right now he's losing money because he can't get through all his emails to submit. (His wife is on the list for a double lung transplant, so he's not mismanaging his business normally, just currently overwhelmed.)
Honestly, there's going to have to be something pretty major for me to not take this, and it can't think of anything off the top of my head that would dissuade me. He can't guarantee 30,000 a year, but it is reasonable in his mind and I'd like a newer entry on my resume and something that might open doors in HR down the road.
