Road trip Badassity
« on: August 19, 2015, 10:58:07 AM »
Road trip to take son to college.  One week after oil change courtesy check and the serpentine belt fails.  Calls to roadside assistance gets an offer of towing to a town about 50 miles away or having them come out and do a roadside repair for parts cost + travel fee.  In no case will this all get done for under $100 and at least several hours.

Cell phone shows auto parts store in next small town <3 miles away.  No problem to limp that way. Buy belt, want to use loaner tool but its out.  Buy the tool for $30.  Store only has premixed antifreeze and we bubbled some out due to lack of cooling fan on the limp mode travel to the store.  No problem, Walmart is on the road back to highway so we pick up distilled water and antifreeze for less and we are still done for less than roadside assistance.  Total time <2 hours.  Why do I pay for roadside assistance?
