Resisted the Smart Phone
« on: August 07, 2019, 09:03:39 AM »
Due to switching networks for a better deal, I need to get a new phone.  Old phone is Verizon and uses CDMA, while the new network (and almost everyone else, really) uses GSM.  I had so far resisted switching to a smart phone, but I did want to keep a qwerty keypad for texting.  We were having trouble finding a model that met those requirements, so I was starting to waver and wonder if it was worth just getting a low-end smart phone and not having to worry.  We already have to have a data plan, since DH needs his smart phone for work.  So DH showed me a few models he thought would meet my needs - all about $200-300.  I balked, and we did some more research and found a basic phone model that will work, for less than $50.

Here's to resisting constant connectivity a little longer, and saving money while doing it!

Does the basic phone use 2G?  If it's 2G only, you're going to have a bad time when that network disappears: https://www.multitech.com/documents/publications/marketing-guides/MT_Anticipated_Sunset_Cellular_Carriers_PDF.pdf

It's 3G, so I think it should be fine a while longer.
