Replaced Both Sinks in the Apartment with Salvaged Ones!
« on: October 13, 2017, 08:43:32 PM »
One perk of working construction is when it comes to large commercial remodels many times you have your pick of everything getting thrown out.  So I nabbed a nice two compartment stainless steal kitchen sink and a cast iron drop in lav for free!  Two new abs traps, two trap adapters, and two new strainers for the kitchen sink (less than $35 total) and I have two far nicer fixtures in the ole' apartment!

For those wondering why I'm working on my apartment: we rent from the SO's parents for absurdly cheap with a little verbal agreement that I make some home improvements every now and then.

Nothing wrong with that. I once recycled a toilet that I found on a construction site. Due to some odd situation, it was only needed by the original user for a few months, and sitting aside the dumpster.  More recently I flipped the interior of our motorhome including new sinks, and faucets. I was able to install some really high end stuff, like an odd sized, quartz double bowl, and a stunning stainless vessel sink, for pennies on the dollar, after finding closeouts online. Nothing like paying sixty bucks,  half of what a cheap plastic RV sink cost, for a sink that would of been $500 at regular price.

If there's a lot of stuff getting thrown out, can you intervene and give it away or sell it?  No reason to throw new stuff into a landfill!
