Repaired My Reading Glasses
« on: May 26, 2014, 05:29:03 PM »
I didn't save a lot, but every dollar adds up. On Friday one of the temples broke away from the frame of my reading glasses at the hinge point. At first, I used electrical tape to make them usable. Yesterday I chucked the tape and tried using some JB Weld, which didn't work out. Today, I dug into my electrical repair parts and found a one inch section of heat shrink tube for electrical wires. Slipped it over the hinge area with the ear-piece in place and shrunk it on with a lighter.

Works like a charm. They no longer hinge on that side, but it works for me. Added bonus is the sporty look the red shrink tube adds to my glasses. Gives 'em some character, more so than duct tape would have.

Nice job.

Heat shrink tubing is great to have around.  There's also some that has adhesive inside that works even better for situations like yours.
