Refund Fee and Alliant Credit Union Endorsment
« on: December 20, 2012, 02:00:40 PM »
I have been trying to consolidate accounts recently. I have several accounts online that I had used in the past with small amount (from 5-100) in them. I recently tried to pull money from Emigrant Direct using Alliant Credit Union. Unbeknownst to me Emigrant does not allow other banks to pull money from their system. This caused Alliant to hit me with a $15 fee for a returned deposit. I emailed Alliant asking some questions and they explained what happened and refunded the fee.

I take three things away from this. 1. Alliant rocks! I highly recommend them. 2. Sometimes you just need to ask. 3. Emigrant direct is horrible. Stay away from them.

Just wanted to brag a little. I was pretty pissed off about the fee.

Second Alliant recommendation.  I'll open an account before the end of the year.  I'm wanting to close my ING account anyway, or at least downplay it's importance in my finances.  I emailed them via the contact form and got a reply quickly enough (24 hours?) that my United Airlines mileage card will get me in.

We use Alliant and love 'em. Their ATM map is sometimes out-of-date (they say that many times, the operator doesn't tell them if they've removed an Alliant-network ATM), but they've always refunded any fees immediately.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
