  • Why buy new when extremely used will do.
The power of a little personal wealth is truly spectacular.  Even with a only a couple of years of expenses stached away, I felt like I held all of the cards in negotiations.

I worked year round and got sick of my boring job, decided to go work at a client's as a salesman, and worked a deal with my employer to work seasonally for almost 75% more.   Had I know I could have cut this deal when I started I would have jumped at it, but no one even thought to offer it, because "How would you live".

To top it off, with my new work load I feel like I am semi retired and love every minute of not sitting in a cube grinding away all day!

Congrats.  This is a great example of how having a decent pile of money helps out in many unexpected ways -- it's not strictly for RE.

Sure, those funds empower you to walk away from a job that's no longer a good fit.

But perhaps more importantly, it also provides confidence to allow you to define your own terms with your current or prospective employers.

Really terrific, thanks for sharing this story.   I love to hear about people who are able to improve their quality of work-life specifically because they're on the FI path, it makes my day.

That's awesome, congrats!

I am a former teacher who accumulated a bunch of real estate, retired at 29, spent some time traveling the world full time and am now settled with three kids.
If you want to know more about me, this Business Insider profile tells the story pretty well.
