Title: Proud of my new floor :)
Post by: nyxst on October 22, 2017, 06:58:01 PM
I went back and forth a lot, wondering if this project was going to be too big for me to do on my own... I'm so happy with the results and proud! Never put in a floating wood floor before, or did any tile, but I did it! (After watching a LOT of YouTube videos on both...) I'm going to try to attach before and after photos if the site will allow me to...

Can't wait to see before and afters!

What was the biggest challenge?
Have you done home improvement projects like this before?
Did it turn out the way you wanted it to?
Anything you'd do differently next time?

I've done drywall, trim, hung some doors, that kind of stuff. I think the biggest challenge in this one is the size of the job, but I'm just taking one room at a time for now. Get really good knee pads with the gel inside. Trust me, you will be in love with them by the end of the project... Every time I did one part, another think would come up that had to be done before I could continue... Like I wanted to lay tile, but the base of the front door (the threshold) was cracked, and once I did tile, there would be no getting it out.... That threshold replacement took me half a day, mostly because I had to watch YouTube just to figure out how to get it out! Getting the new one in was pretty easy. And like when I realized it wasn't going to work to have wood at the front door once winter and snowy boots started shuffling into the house..... I decided to do the tile at the last second as an afterthought and am really very glad I did... It will save me a lot of stress and worry!

There is so much left to do.... Floor in the rest of the house... Replace counter tops in kitchen, remodel the bathroom... But I'm feeling good about it all now that I see how nicely this part turned out! Saving at least a few grand by doing it myself... Gonna cut myself a nice big paycheck at the end of it all... :) Also, will have nice buns and thighs by the end of the project from all the millions of squats involved...

I saw this yesterday and was hoping you would post pictures. Your new floor is gorgeous. That must have been so much work.(http://)

Your old floor looks like circa 1960 linoleum squares, brown with cream irregular striations. How do I know this? It's still in one of the rooms of my house.

It is still the floor in my laundry room (soon to be covered!) And this was under carpet. It is asbestos tile, so I've been told. A lot of work..., But worth it!

Wow, nice. I wish I'd thought to do tile or something at the front door when I did the floor in my house!

Looks great! I have been over the course of the last 2 years going from room to room redoing our 1970s ranch and just recently put down wood floors. After doing alot of research I did a wide plank engineered floor that allows 1 sanding. Was pretty simple once i got going. Its a floor that could of been floating but i put down cloth because the subfloor wasnt for hardwood but carpeting and rented a nailer and nailed it. Alot of options these days that really can make a huge impact on home.  Well done!!  My next project since the floors i did are kitchen , dining room and hallways is to figure out whats the best way to bring my kitchen cabinets back into the future and since i basically opened it up so dining room is now extension of kitchen and eating area I want to add and island.  It never ends though seemingly.

Looks great! I’m thinking about doing this myself - do you mind sharing where you bought the wood flooring and what product you selected?

It's Pergo... Got it at Lowe's when they had a great discount and free shipping. It's supposed to last forever, we will see how it holds up to my family ..  haha!
