Pasta Night
« on: August 08, 2017, 05:47:22 PM »
So, Mondays are pasta night around here. We fill the pasta pot with water at least an hour before beginning to boil in order for it to warm up and to save some energy BTUs!

Doesn't seem too impressive, but then again I have been known to turn off the stovetop when the pasta is close to being done and just let the residual heat cook it the rest of the way. Also, I sometimes save the cooking water, let it return to room temperature, and then use it to water the garden. I figure the water has been infused with a bit more nutrients too.

So I won't knock you for this slight savings boast.

Sometimes I pee in the pot to supplement the water level.  Mad savings, yo!

Eat it raw :)
Actually, I did that with some frequency in college.
Uncooked ramen noodles. Yum. Just a giant, 400-calorie 17cent cracker.

Is it more efficient to heat the water in a kettle and transfer to the pan prior to cooking or just heat from cold in the pan? :-)
