« on: May 22, 2015, 08:23:01 AM »
Just checked online and my final payment cleared on my mortgage, feels great! May 2015 has been a great month so far, graduated Magna Cum Lade from my MBA and paid off my mortgage! How am I going to celebrate this weekend.......hooking up my OTA antenna to my redundant dish as my satellite ends on Saturday!

On target for very comfortable FIRE in 2019!

Just keep chipping away at it and it soon goes, started out at $350K and got it done in a little under 11 years. Could have done it sooner but balanced using spare cash between extra payments and investments. Could I have earned more using the extra payments in the market, sure, but it feels great to look at my house and think "I OWN THIS"!

Well done! You might find that for the first couple of months, not making that payment is almost like an itch you can't scratch.

Well done on the mortgage, hope to join you in 4 months time.

And the MBA but...you do realise it's magna cum laude?

Congratulations! I hope to be in the same situation in a few weeks' time. We're aiming for FIRE in 2024.

Congrats!   The mortgage is The Big One!   We started tossing extra payments on the principle a while back as well.   On track to pay off the home loan in about 5 years (started at $179k).   Perhaps a bit sooner once car is paid off in about 10 months.

Congratulations, you seem to be on the right tracks!
May you share your thought process as to why study a MBA 4 years before retirement? Do you think it's worth it?

Irony.

Is it though, really? Do VPs need to be able to spell? Not in my experience.  :)

Seriously, OP, this is awesome, and congratulations.

Was my MBA worth it? Absolutely! To be honest the only thing it cost me was time, some gas money and about $500 in books and supplies (my company paid for tuition fees). Even though I aim to FIRE in 2019 I would not rule out part time or occasional work in my field where the MBA will be beneficial so I can always call on it despite my traditional full time career my not be longer than 5 years  all being well.

I got a nice increase in pay when I started my MBA (flight protection I think) and I’m hoping for nice little bump when my review is due. Though in all honesty I’m well compensated for now and even if I just keep up with inflation for the next 5 years I’ll be fine. Any additional increases won’t shorten FIRE to be honest, just make the pile a bit bigger when I get there.

I really enjoyed my MBA, made a lot of new friends that the wife and I hang out with regularly now it’s over and I can’t see it harming any future opportunities I may pursue after FIRE so I think it was well worth the effort.
