A couple of days ago I finally made my final payment on my student loans. Husband and I are completely free of educational debt! Together we'd amassed almost a hundred thousand dollars of it, between both our undergrad degrees and my graduate degree, but now it's gone.
My loan servicing company had automatically put me on the 30-year plan to pay off the grad balance, but I managed in 3.5 years, with most of that happening in the last 2 years. PLUS, I made more than $400 in the process of paying them off, by making payments on my credit card, earning points, and then immediately paying that card off.
And a final point of badassity -- not only are the loans paid off, but according to my calculations, this is also the year where the debt became worthwhile - where my increased income surpasses the money spent getting that education in the first place. After this point, it's all profit. :D
Feeling pretty smug today, and really looking forward to the next thing -- plowing through that mortgage.
