Paid a big vet bill worry free!
« on: June 06, 2016, 05:12:40 PM »
This isn't something many people would typically be excited about, but I took my cat to the vet today and it turns out he broke a tooth. The vet said the exposed root needs to be extracted. The estimate they gave me for surgery is $570 which is less than I was expecting to pay, but I'm able to cover it without having to worry about where the money is coming from. If this would have come up a year ago I would have put it on my credit card and had no idea how I was going to pay it off.

Because I've gotten my finances under control I can just lower my extra amount going to pay off my student loans and cover this no problem. They say money can't buy happiness, but it sure does buy peace of mind.

That's great! And I'm glad your cat is going to feel better soon, too, in ways that don't hurt YOU either. :D

I'm anticipating some vet bills next year (cat has a 4/6 heart murmur that needs to be looked into unless it magically goes away) and ... it's amazing to realize that while not ideal, these things are... doable.

I'm glad you have some peace of mind!

Congrats!  It is a wonderful feeling to see our four legged friends on the mend!  I hope to be the same financial situation soon : )

I had to do the cat dental surgery too and was mildly amused to have the vet tell me that they can arrange payment plans.  Nooo....  I got this..  but thanks

Thanks for all the positive responses. I'm pleasantly surprised it was much less than I was anticipating. Vet said he didn't have any signs of dental disease, so it must have been trauma that caused the the tooth to break. I guess he's not as graceful as I thought.

I know exactly how you feel! My poor dog just had nine teeth extracted (he had bad gums when we adopted him and it's only gotten worse, despite brushing) and the bill was only half of what I was expecting! Could have covered it either way, but it was a welcome surprise. It's such a relief to know your pets are healthy and that medical emergencies won't turn into financial disasters.

CATman, your story is great, its one of the biggest pluses of having your finances in control, just to be able to handle these sporadic yet big expenses without worry, knocking them out like the whackamole game.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
