Our lowest week of food costs so far...
« on: November 03, 2012, 05:36:34 PM »
This is an exceptional week in getting fed. These numbers are not what we spent, but what we consumed.

Wify has a perk we’ve been taking advantage of. She can get free meat and other food from work. They cater lunch and dinner everyday to her office. Leftovers are thrown away and employees are encouraged to take it home with office provided to go boxes. This isn't cheap crap food either. Food is delivered from all over San Francisco's trendiest, hippest places; usually organic.

This has meant we keep the meat we buy is kept in the freezer. It's too hard to guess when we'll need it and i don't want to pass up feeding us well for nothing.

All of my lunches during work last week were covered by food that would have been thrown away.

This week:

Lunches-One $6 pot of pork and beans soup

Dinners-Wify eats at work. I had leftovers and potlucks, I made a huge pan of baked veggies for one. $6

Breakfasts-$15 Smoothies for me, eggs and beans for her

Snacks-dried mango, nuts $5

Total/$32 for two adults

Nice!  I used to get leftovers from work lunches.  Work stopped catering lunches.

My boss still brings in boxes of fruit from his orchards.  Avocados, oranges, apples...

Catering is one of the many jobs that comes with money-saving perks.  Auto mechanics never pay for car repair.  Lawyers never pay for legal advice.  I'm sure there are others.
