Not MY Badassity But...
« on: January 03, 2014, 11:22:43 AM »
...had to share this somewhere.  The area I live in got hit by quite a bit of snow last night.  The CEO of my company arrived this morning on...

wait for it...

Cross-Country Skis!

During the conversation about his unusual arrival today he mentioned that he had successfully skied to work at least one day every year the company has been in business.

Anyone else see people use any "odd" methods to get to work?

Where I live, my bike IS an odd method.

You are right Jessie. Atlanta sucks for bikes unless you live along the comet.  I have a few friends that are able to bike to work on the comet.  I am very envious.

Whoah!  That's excellent.  I have been seriously considering this myself...to try it out.  I can more or less go door to door along a *seldom* used railway.  It would probably be 7km as the crow flies.  However, the conditions are terrible right now for breaking in a track, it was hard enough making one at the back of a local school for the youngster to practice on.

I'm sure there are lots of snowmobile/atv folks...

I assume you mean human powered things?  I knew some folks that kayaked to work across a bay at an old job I had.  You could also kite surf or sailboard there to...

I go into the office one day a week.  The potential bike route is about 15 miles, and about half of it is the Big Creek Greenway, which is totally awesome.  Problem is, the other half of it is almost entirely Roswell Rd, which scares the beejesus out of me.  I'm thinking about driving to the start of the greenway and biking the rest of the way though.

I usually walk to work, and I have snow-shoed to work both in NH and MN after really big storms, in the past.  It was fun!

I live in Montréal, own snowshoes, and usually walk to work - I foresee this happening at least once!

My most unusual story would be a woman who arrived on horseback. She was out riding near our rural/smalltown campus when a freezer in her lab broke. Rather than go home and come back, she rode straight to the lab building when she got the emergency call. The well-behaved horse was tethered to a tree out back, and made many friends while she ran around emptying the contents of her freezer into other labs.

Not Mustachian at all, but I'm a big fan of XKCD and owned an electric skateboard a couple of years ago. I normally biked, but I used to ride in to work (at a lab) on it when the weather was nice.

My "commute" went by an elementary school, and the kids always freaked out when they saw me whirring by going uphill.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
