Non-Car Commuting
« on: March 16, 2016, 09:23:37 AM »
I bike or walk to work nearly every day, so much so that when I drove to work today a co-worker was surprised that I knew how to drive a car and had a license :o)

I've visited some rual areas of poor countries and everyone always seem surprised that I know how to ride a bike, to them it seems crazy that I would ever ride one since I look super-rich and own a car.

People are surprised at my work that I bike nearly everyday, even though it is only a 4-hour commute. Depending on traffic, it can sometimes take longer for me to drive! Avoiding the frustration of traffic is perhaps a larger motivator for me than exercise or saving money!

I would like to someday have one of those electric, folding scooters some start-up companies are coming up with. They're too pricey for me right now, but I like the idea of them. Would be super handy for ferrying my car to the mechanic too.

I'm curious about the bus system in my town, which I've never used. I might try it one day when I'm sure I'm going straight home after work.

Oh lord, nevermind. Looks like over an hour each way and I'd be waiting for an hour at the end of the day to catch the last bus. It's only 20 minutes in my car! I may still try it just to know what it is like and use it when my car might not be available for some reason.

Hmm, would you be more likely to believe me if I said I meant 4 mile?

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
