No car weekend!
« on: February 22, 2016, 07:34:28 AM »
Probably not a big deal for most folks on here, but I was happy to accomplish this. Started out biking to the grocery store Saturday morning. Only a little over 5 miles roundtrip, which isn't bad, but it's nothing but hills. Seriously the only flat part was pulling into and out of my garage. And I had to navigate numerous stairs leading to a bike trail. My bike trailer bottoms out on the stairs so I had to "slide" down the muddy embankment on my way home with all the groceries.

Then I took the kids to the park later that day. Threw my daughter in the bike trailer and my son rode his own bike.

Hoping to have many more weekends like this.

Was it more fun?
That's what we often find.
All the stuff attached to driving--finding parking, getting gas, sitting at lights--is a pain the ass.
And it's stunning how much time you spend on that crap when you use cars.
Skip the car, skip the PITA. Keep things on a small local scale. Suddenly the day is calmer and more fun.

Definitely more fun. And a great challenge. It certainly helped that it was an unseasonably 70 degrees outside.

Due to my job location I have to commute by car, but on weekends I usually go car-free whenever I can.  Fortunately my neighborhood has a lot within walking distance so it isn't a big deal.
