New Job!
« on: February 14, 2015, 11:32:09 AM »
I lurk around these forums but don't really post. I felt this, however, is something I am very excited about. I work for a school district working with special needs students. I work 6.5 hours a day and am employed 9.5 months of the year (excluding summer school, but it is not guaranteed and are only 3 hour days).

I applied and interviewed to be a teacher for the child care department in the district. I was not offered the position, as they promoted from within, but I was offered to work extra earnings in their department daily. This increased my work day to 8 hours. I did this for about 3 months until a position opened within the department that I was interested in. I was just offered the position which is 8 hours a day and 12 months. It is also 5 pay ranges higher that I currently am. I estimate that my income will go from around $28,000 last year to around $50,000!

I am getting married this December and my goal was to find a job that could make it possible for my future husband to go to school full time as he is currently finishing his pre-reqs for nursing. Goal met! Not to mention I should now be able to pay off my student loans (my only debt) off before we get married!

Congrats! Also, congrats on your fiance's path- nursing school is hard stuff, but an amazing experience! I just recently graduated (and got married, for that matter), so if you have any questions about the whole process, let me know!

Congrats on the higher income. It also seems like a job that you will enjoy, so you didn't have to sell out. Well done.

looknsharp, congrats! I like the patience, persistence and work ethic I read in your post. These qualities serve me well in life and I bet they will do the same for you over the long run. Although don't let your work ethic suck you into the workplace longer than you want to be there. You can focus that on whatever post-FIRE activity you pursue!
