Net Worth >10k!

Sure, it's a tiny figure compared to most on this site, but I've been tracking this goal for some time.  Hopefully the last time in my life I dip below five figures!

Background:
Started career mid-June with NW of $3200.  Thank God I found MMM so early!  Two months ago, I expected to be arriving at this 10k goal in mid to late October.  All of this while incurring some major start up expenses in life -- my first television, my first bike, furniture, six months of car insurance, a year of renter's insurance, security deposit, administrative deposit, and utility start up deposits.  Wow!

Saved some major money on some of those start up expenses, buying all my furniture at garage sales and craigslist, my tv on EBay and my bike used on Amazon.  I started making immediate lifestyle changes upon discovering MMM -- packing my own lunch, changing car insurance policy, increase 401k contributions and change the portfolio, selling textbooks and other junk on Amazon.

Still a long ways to go -- maxing 401k, phone bill, grocery costs, etc. etc.

Thank you all for your inspiration!

Approx Assets:
$6500 cash
$1000 401k
$6000 'EF' (invested in VWINX.  Risky EF or maybe you don't even consider it an EF, I know)
$5000 taxable investments (low risk until my SL grace period is up)
-$9000 student loans (no interest until this November)

I realize for most established Mustachian folks out there that these don't qualify as major purchases.  But when the sum of these expenses was a sizable portion of my net worth just two months ago, I call that significant! (at least relatively)

Very nice g3!  I think you might have this stuff figured out. Retired in 10 years is a realistic possibility if you keep it going.

That's awesome g3!!  Keep that savings rate up and you'll be pleasantly surprised at how quickly your accounts will grow!

Nice!  I remember when I was excited about going over 4 figures.  It seemed like such a huge amount.  It can be a psychological barrier, so getting used to thinking in big numbers early is great!

Nice!!  Keep in mind that saving $10K is a huge accomplishment for non-Mustachians.  They don't mind spending that much mind you,  but saving it in a single year?  Outrageous behaviour!  Arrest this man!

Question about VWINX. This appears to be heavily weighted on bonds and aims to provide higher dividends. Is this Vanguard's version of an actively managed fund? I just assumed all of the VG funds were based on an index.

Congrats g3!  I am teetering between a negative and zero new worth right now, so I can relate to the stash-envy.  We all start in different places, but MMM gives us the guidelines to FI.  Best of luck adding decimals from here!

Way ahead of the game, man.

You say you have $6,500 in cash and another $6k in an EF. Given that you're just starting out, I would put $2k in a savings account for a true emergency and put the rest in either your taxable investment account or in a Roth with an 80:20 stock to bond ratio.

Another thought is to just pay off the those students loans right now (before November) and be done with them.

Don't worry about what you have saved vs others here.  You will do great.   You will earn, save and invest your way to independence.  I remember all to well having $10,000 net worth.  It was a proud moment.  Had I acted a little smarter back then I'd be much better off today.  I was a saver just not a supersaver.  You've got this.   Hang in there.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
