My wife is a Badass
« on: December 30, 2014, 03:22:11 PM »
My wife is Amazing.

We had our first daughter 4 years ago, and our second daughter 6 months ago. Inbetween the 2 Girls my wife studied to be a midwife on zero student loans. I supported us all through this period on my wages as a carpenter and the generous paternity pay here in Sweden. However its Always been the Mrs who's been the more frugal of the 2 of us. Having been tipped off about MMM by a friend Ive kicked things into overdrive and plan to quit work by 50 (Im 39 next month).

At somepoint in 2015 Mrs D is planning on getting a job and contributing towards our ER fund.
On the whole concept of FIRE she's gone from non-believing sceptic to trusting acceptance to mild enthusiasm ;)

On Christmas Eve we sat up late and discussed the future, our dreams, wishes and aims for the coming life we are going to live together. When the question of jobs and Money came up I gave her the noobie friendly version of mustachianism. Once she got a grip of the fundementals and could see my eagerness to push on with our plans she couldnt deny it anymore.
Her response was:
"So, shall we just save ALL of my wages when I start working then?"
I couldn't've been given a better Christmas present.

My wife is a Badass!!

Congrats on the great catch with the wife. Well done.

Keep in mind that the frugal lifestyle is genetically pre-programmed into most Scandinavians. Seriously. Scientists are testing Scandanivian DNA now to find the frugal gene. It'll show up at some point.

Best example: the Norwegians have been saving most of their oil wealth in a Sovereign Wealth fund. Almost $1 trillion (!!!) saved up by now. Who ever heard of a politician not wanting to spend money? They've also planned a very Mustachian 4% maximum withdrawal rate. So, they'll have 40 billion USD to spend ever year, forever, among a population of maybe 4 million?

Thanks bwall.  I'm English so who knows what result the Scando/Anglo combination will throw up.
Apparently, before the extent of the Norwegian oil reserve was known (during the 70s ) there was a move for Sweden to share half of Volvo in exchange for half the Norwegian oil. ......Sweden said no thanks as Volvo was such a strong company back then........ Who knows what could've happened.

Have a Happy Frugal New Year!

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
