My progress so far.....
« on: August 12, 2014, 07:59:01 AM »
I am trying to cut down our monthly expenses, since finding Mr Money Mustache, this is what I have done.

We home school for pre school saves $115/mo
Cut our phone phone bills saves $100/mo Switched from Sprint to Verizon, we had no choice in this area, then we get it through Todds work to get a discount.
switched our chiro services, saves at least $138/mo
switched auto insurance saves $40/mo
Cut the cord on cable saves $80/mo
opened a new max checking where we earn 3% on the money that is in there that should be about $500/year we gain

We upped Todds 401k contribution, his company upped their match and we followed suit, I think we are putting in 9% now, we want to up it again soon.

I know their is more I can't remember at this moment.

that totals a savings of about $513/month + the extra savings on the 401k, on things that won't really change our lifestyle, well it will be hard for me to not have TV, for now we will go without, later we might get apple tv, or something like that.

I am going to switch my phone carrier again and I am pretty sure I can save another $40/mo can't wait!

Lots of other little things too, like not eating out as much and trying to save on electricity, propane and other.

I am proud of myself and wanted to share, I think we will take this savings and put it into a Roth IRA

I actually cut the cable cord just yesterday, so I am excited and a bit nervous :) I really like TV

Plus I forgot to say, On Sunday my DH took the boys up to the lake to gov eke some time alone, instead of driving the other car up there, I biked the 10 miles on a single speed with fat tires and into a head wind.

I haven't bike d10 miles in the last 5 years put together, I was so proud of myself. Only my saddle is sore, I didn't really push myself with speed, just trying to make it.

I forgot how much fun biking can be.

$6,000 after tax too! Could be more like a $8,000 to $10,000 raise pre-tax. A dollar saved is more than a dollar earned, truly.

So true, thank you for the reminder, it can all seem so little, but it truly is a good amount. Now to whittle down my food budget.....

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
