Mustachianism Anniversary!!
« on: July 02, 2014, 10:52:29 PM »
9 days from now marks our (my wife and I) anniversary of deciding to truly adopt Mustachianism.  (I/we were always very frugal before, but missed the investing and aiming for early retirement angle.)  In that year, our net worth has increased about 68K!!!!!! (more than our salary! thanks stock market!)

Unfortunately I wasn't tracking before then, so I can't compare my net worth increase to any prior year, but I'm certain this is the best year we've ever had!

Just thought I'd share, so that anyone thinking about becoming mustachian can see that it truly works!

Sweetness! Way to go! What do you think was the biggest change you've made this year?

The biggest change was probably 2 things.
The most important was to actually invest in more than just retirement accounts.  It never occurred to me to invest more than the government allowed.
The other was a re-affirmation in my frugal ways.  As I said, I was frugal before and knew we were better off than others because of it, but I never realized it could lead to early retirement.  So I have buckled back down.  Before it was like, "Well I'm still doing better than everyone around me."  But now I realize even though I'm doing better than my peers, that I still need to work to my potential.

I think you might be me 365 days in the future.  I stumbled on this site because my tax advantaged accounts where maxed out and I didn't know what to do. We have always been frugal  compared to normal people but we found a lot of leaks that we have plugged or at the very least slowed down.  Anyway congrats and can't wait to see your update for year number 2
