Oh wow you guys!
I started reading this forum several months ago, intent on spending more of my time on things that really mattered, and less of my money on things that didn't.
And I learned some things.
First, this is the only place on the Internet where people give you praise for not spending money.
Damn.
That both inspired me and made me really, really sad.
Second, if you want to live in San Francisco and spend time with your friends, you'll have a really hard time being a successful Mustachian. Is it possible? Sure! But this city in recent years has changed from a bohemian center into a place where $17 cocktails are pretty normal, and eating out is the easiest way to see friends.
I'm sure there are ways to approach this without moving, but I'd like to have a garden again, and let my poor cat out of the house.
And then my oldest friends reminded me that I'd, y'know, built a house on wheels! So much of last year has been poured into paying off the debt on the thing that I'd forgotten I could, like, live in it! It's been in Tahoe on Airbnb, but after the land rent and cleaning expenses, it doesn't earn me much at all.
So for the next six weeks or so, I'll be running my business remotely and scoping out new places to live! First stop is Eureka, California. I may head back home to Olympia Washington, or take an entirely different tack.
Whatever I do, I'll be happier building communities that aren't so entrenched in spending to grasp at happiness, growing more of my own food, and not feeling trapped in a city where my values are so different.
Thanks guys! Just reading everyone's stories has been a huge motivation.
