Millionaire by my 40th birthday?

I turn 40 in a few months and my (actually our, I have a partner) Net Worth according to mint.com is $985,709.65.

A lot of it is inflated zillow estimates of our 2 properties. However, I find some satisfaction knowing that number will be around $1M on my 40th birthday. I will probably celebrate by going camping.

My partner and I are in a little bit of a holding pattern because we could sell everything and FIRE to LCOL area, but we don't know where that is and we don't know what we would do. We would both want to side-hustle to keep busy and grow our emergency fund, we are both innovative hard working people. But we are having a hard time imagining the future. We would like to FIRE where we live but that would mean an extra 5 years. Which doesn't sound so bad, so that's probably what we'll do barring a decision.

Congrats!! A nice gift to yourself . . . Freedom! I'm the same about not knowing where to want to go or what to do post-work. It's a big decision.

Great job!  The feeling must be nice!  I actually have that same goal for our family, to be a 1 Millionaire by the time I reach 40!  I have about 2.5 years, but according to the calculations we'll be close!  I plan to celebrate by taking a day off with my DW while our 3 boys are in school and have a cheap "Millionaire Club Breakfast", or probably coffee :)

My stretch goal as well. Have a little over 3 years to go and about 1.5 times our yearly income to save so have to hope our investments do really well or house value goes up a lot (not likely)

Nice work. I'm 21 months away from my 40th and I'm only at 500K. I should be around 600-650K on my 40th. However, I did 7 years of full-time grad school so I got a little bit of a late start. I think I should hit it by 45.

This is our goal as well, only by my husbands's 40th birthday(not mine since I am a bit younger than him).


I'd really LOVE to have my house paid off by my 40th birthday, but to do that I would have to stop maxing out our tax-advantaged accounts and I just can't seem to pull the trigger on that (because: math).  But what awesome birthday presents for us - $1M for him and a paid for house for me!
