Almost paid off my house!
« on: October 26, 2024, 11:13:40 PM »
in 2011 I got pushed out of my roommate share in the winter in dreary Portland after spending a couple of nights in the hospital. I'd had a hard time holding down full time work due to a repetitive stress injury and some health issues.   It had been a long downhill journey... while sitting in my truck at night in the cold rain trying to decide what to do, I decided to turn it around by building my own business at my own speed DIY and find an affordable healthy place to live.  I kept my nose to the grindstone applying mustachian values for over a decade  and got to the bottom of what was causing the health problems - I did build the business this year it will pull in over $100K, I have a trademarked product and I'm within 20K of paying off my little 600 square foot house and just put in a new kitchen! Next year I might hire some help. The picture on my mantel says "Perseverance".  Oh yeah and I climbed Mt Shasta last year! :)   Take that roomies!

Way to go!

I know there are differing opinions on paying off mortgages on this forum, but when we paid off our house a couple of years ago (on Halloween) it was - and still is - an amazing feeling, being able to say we have zero debt.

Fantastic!  well done!. I bet that feels amazing.   I am looking forward to being a free(ish) human.  It's taken a long time - if you remove the mistakes I'd have been here a decade ago, but better late than never.   It's all relative, nothing lasts forever - really what I want is balance to maximize healthspan and actually enjoy being alive for a bit rather than it being an endless work slog and maintenance backlog.  I'm going to tour Patagonia on a bicycle to celebrate!!
