Line-drying clothes outside. In Seattle. In October.

Just hung my clothes to dry outside. It's October 5th, and I live in Seattle. I can't believe this amazing weather is happening! There's sun and highs in the 70s for the next few days.

Anyone else still line-drying their clothes outside?

Bellingham here.  This weather is awesome, innit?  It's nice to have dry fall leaves to walk in, usually it's pretty much compost falling out of the sky around here in October.  LOL! :)  I have been line-drying clothes outside too! Cheers!

Wonderful weather is..... wonderful :) Glad you are enjoying a good share.

Just thought I'd add a few tips on drying clothes, for days that are a little more wet.

- Undercover clothes line
- Clothes horse / airer inside (preferably near a heat vent or heat source)
- Clothes line underneath the eves of your house above where the 'waste' heat from split systems or heaters are. An airer close to the 'box' also works.
- A clothes line in the garage where you park your car, so that when you drive the car on and the motor is still hot you can use that residual heat to help dry clothes. Even better if it is convenient to grab washing because your garage is close to your house. Some even share a internal door! But it will help to dry clothes even if your garage is separate.

I've got a large clothes drying rack and dry my clothes inside.  Yay apartment living!

This fall has been one of the best I can remember here in Seattle. We seem to have a fair amount of PNWer's here on the forum :-)

I'm just a bit north of you.  It's been nice enough I decided to just do 1 load today I can do the rest tomorrow, or the day after, or the day after, or the day after...    When the weather finally changes I'll have a load on the line pretty much any day that it's sunny.

Still line drying too! My heater element went out in my dryer, so I've got a small DIY project to do pretty soon. The great weather has been fantastic!

No.  That fresh line-dried scent everyone raves about just smells like wet dog to me.  (Which I don't like.)

More hints:
* Turn on a ceiling fan (or other fan)
* Flip the clothes over when the tops are mostly dry (if you're draping them over a clothes rack)
* Don't put the drying rack too close to a wall or furniture or the wall or furniture will mildew.  Three inches is too close.  Six inches seems okay in my house.

Not to totally pimp my own drying rack invention, but I'm rather proud of how awesomely this design for a wall mounted indoor rack is working out. I've been using it since April indoors in Seattle and will keep using it year-round. My laundry room has a fan on it, so I'm not too worried about humidity buildup over the winter. It holds a TON and cost $3 (got the main parts on Freecycle). Just in case you need something for when the rains eventually return, as - sadly - we know they must. :)

i'm a renter so i line dry indoors using a leifheit rack.  it was a pricey $40 on amazon but well worth the investment.  i've already saved $20 in laundrymat costs in less than a year!

I wish you other PNWers would stop hyping the weather up here.  The last thing we need is more Californians moving in.

To clarify, the Pacific Northwest has terrible weather.  It rains all the time, and everything is grey and soggy.  You do not want to visit here, much less move here.  Stay away.

Your right, it rains here all the time. No one should ever move here. If you want to move here, make sure to come in April, it's like that yearround, I swear. Maybe if we convince everyone of this, the cost of housing might finally fall.....
